A delegation from the Chengdu Sport University (CDSU) visited representatives from the FISU Development and Education departments at Synathlon. It was their first time at the headquarters in Switzerland.
Five representatives of the Chengdu Sport University (CDSU) travelled to the FISU headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland) to carry on working on common programmes under the banner of the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center, which is part of the legacy of the Chengdu FISU World University Games that took place during the summer of 2023 (28 July – 8 August).
During those very successful games, FISU and CDSU signed a MoU and jointly built the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center to collaborate on the following programmes: sports medicine education; international university sports events, academic, scientific research and cultural exchanges; featured FISU education; FISU heritage protection and academic achievement database, FISU Healthy Campus and other promotion programmes.
Cultural exchanges
“The International University Sports Culture Exchange Center is a great legacy of the FISU Chengdu Games. We will develop more opportunities for cultural exchanges and education as creating beautiful and healthy environment for students and professors is our priority”, assured Shu Weiping, Secretary General of the CPC CDSU Committee, Professor.
FISU President Leonz Eder also took part to the discussions. “Chengdu Sports University has an impressive study programme on all academic levels, and we are proud partners of the International University Sports Culture Exchange Center. We congratulate and thank you again for being one of four Sports University in China which has achieved the Healthy Campus Certification so far. You will serve as a role model for other Chinese Universities.”
Chengdu Sport University was the organiser of the last FISU Chengdu World Conference, whose theme was “University Sports: Embracing a Colorful World”. Over 400 experts and scholars – a record number for a FISU Conference – gathered in Chengdu 29-31 July 2023. “I was extremely lucky to work on the organisation of the FISU Chengdu World Conference with a professional and very dedicated team from CDSU, who made the biggest Conference happen during some difficult times”, stated Lilia Barieva, FISU Education and Culture Director.
Healthy Campus certification
During that World Conference, Chengdu Sport University received its Healthy Campus certification. Another very important and ongoing link between FISU and Chengdu, as underlined by FISU Development and Healthy Campus Director, Fernando Parente: “We are happy to have CDSU as one of our first universities from China joining the programme.”
Despite the distance separating China and Switzerland, the collaboration between CDSU and FISU is strong and very much alive.
