TO Tag introduced as mascot for Torino 2025 FISU World University Games Winter

Winter Games 25 February 2024

Its appearance inspired by the world of gaming and animation graphics, TO Tag made its debut on Saturday as the mascot for the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games Winter. With our daily lives regularly intersecting between real life and digital, TO Tag was designed to take the best of the digital world to serve real life, and will do so representing the Torino 2025 FISU Games in the coming year.

The unveiling ceremony took place in the Transparency Hall of the Regione Piemonte Skyscraper in Torino. FISU President Leonz Eder, President of the Torino 2025 Organizing Committee Alessandro Ciro Sciretti, and the City of Turin Sports Councilor Domenico Carretta were all in attendance for TO Tag’s debut.

President of the Organising Committee of Torino 2025, Alessandro Ciro Sciretti commented, “TO Tag is ready to become the most active Ambassador of the [FISU] Games of Torino 2025 and soon we will see it roaming our mountains, which in less than a year will be the stage for this fantastic event. We are ready to welcome the world, and the choice of this mascot is our manifesto: we want to break down all barriers and welcome anyone who wants to experience the emotions of the next [FISU Games Winter], which will return to our region after 18 years, bringing here the excellence of university sports.”

The name ‘TO Tag’ evokes many ideas:

  • The ‘TO’ to represent Torino as the host city of the FISU Games and the permanent home to the FISU World University Games torch and Flame of Knowledge
  • The term ‘tag’, that in English can refer to a children’s game of running, chasing, and movement, but is now also ever-present in our global, social networks as the term representing the desire to include someone within one’s discourse

As a robot, TO Tag symbolises the search for the future of innovation and solidarity. It does not have a specific body shape nor a highlighted or underlined gender identity, and equally shares each of the values of the FISU World University Games Winter. TO Tag is inclusive, egalitarian, and desirous of friendship and bonds that transcend any prejudice.

“It was great to meet TO Tag today! Such an original mascot, with its pixelated face and captivating colors, I’m sure it will win the hearts of all fans,” said FISU President Leonz Eder, on hand for the unveiling.

The role of ambassador begins today for TO Tag in what will be a busy next eleven months. With the Torino 2025 FISU Games set to take place in six Piedmontese municipalities (Torino, Bardonecchia, Pragelato, Torre Pellice, Pinerolo, Sestriere), with 11 sports, and, including for the first time, student athletes with disabilities (alpine and cross-country skiing), the new mascot has an active year ahead. That means a lot of smiles, selfies, posts, visits, and fun leading to the 13 January opening ceremony.
