FISU and FUSC sign MoU to promote Healthy Campus in China

China 1 February 2024

In an important step towards promoting FISU’s Healthy Campus programme in China, FISU and the University Sports Federation of China (FUSC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The agreement was reached during a visit to FISU headquarters in Lausanne on 1 February by a high-level Chinese delegation that included representatives from the Ministry of Education, FUSC, UNESCO in China, and Chinese diplomats based in Switzerland.

China, with over 3,000 higher education institutions, wants to take more proactive measures to enhance the well-being of its over 40 million students. Currently, 14 Chinese universities are part of the Healthy Campus programme, with four of them (Peking University, Chengdu University, Donghua University, and Chengdu Sport University) already certified for their commitment to student health and well-being.

The MoU for promoting and developing FISU’s Healthy Campus programme in China was signed by Eric Saintrond, Secretary General and CEO of FISU, and Liu Lixin, Vice President of FUSC. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Vice Minister of Education of China and President Eder.

Leonz Eder, President of FISU, welcomed the Chinese delegation expressing his pleasure at the longstanding and fruitful collaboration between FISU and China in hosting international university sports events. He also highlighted the immense potential to promote the Healthy Campus programme in China’s numerous universities.

Mr. Wang Jiayi, Vice-Minister of Education, also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration and of the importance of university sports in China’s educational landscape. Mr. Wang shared his personal interest in educational sports and the role they play in students’ holistic development.

The collaboration between FISU and FUSC is expected to lead to the integration of more Chinese universities into the Healthy Campus programme and further promotion of university sports, both locally and internationally. It marks a significant step towards creating healthier and more holistic university experiences for Chinese students.
