From left to right: Mike Kurt; Leonz Eder; Ambassador Wang Shihting; Councillor Xi RuBERN—Leonz Eder, First Vice-President of FISU and Managing Director of Swiss University Sports, was invited to visit the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Switzerland—H.E. Wang Shihting. Mr. Wang has been the Ambassador to Switzerland since August 2020.
Eder was accompanied by Mike Kurt, President of Swiss University Sports and Member of the Executive Board of Swiss Olympic. The meeting took place at the residence of the Ambassador in Muri, within the Swiss capital of Bern.
The talks, which were also attended by Xi Ru, Counsellor for Culture, Tourism, Education, Science and Technology, focused on the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games and the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade, as well as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
“The Organising Committee in Chengdu is working hard to prepare wonderful Games for the student athletes from all over the world,” Ambassador Wang stated. He also emphasised that he is happy to welcome the large Chinese delegation to the Winter Universiade in December 2021 in central Switzerland.
Mike Kurt also mentioned the importance of all multisport events in 2021 and 2022 for the top athletes and offered provide ongoing cooperation between the Ambassador and the President of Swiss Olympic, Jürg Stahl— also a big supporter of the Winter Universiade in Switzerland.
The possibility of cooperation between Chinese companies based in Switzerland and Swiss University Sports were also discussed. Additionally, both parties expressed continuation for the tradition of sport meetings between Chinese exchange students in Switzerland. This cooperation has already been realised by Unisport Bern, where Director Reto Zimmermann ensured that friendly cooperation through sport has already been established with great success and continues to grow.
