Alojzy Nowak’s re-election by majority vote alongside the honouring of distinguished student-athletes with the Medal of Bronislaw Czech were among the assembly highlights
The new board for the Polish University Sport Association (AZS) was elected during the 2020 AZS General AssemblyWARSAW – During last Saturday night’s Polish University Sport Association (AZS) General Assembly in the nation’s capital city a new executive board was elected.
AZS successfully ran the elections and formed a new board, headlined by the re-election by a majority vote for the presidency to Professor Alojzy Nowak, Rector of Warsaw University. The vice-presidency positions saw FISU Vice-President Marian Dymalski and EUSA President Adam Roczek re-elected. The AZS Secretary-General remains Dariusz Piekut.
The organisers took into consideration the current circumstances of still insurgent coronavirus. Hence, the number of participants in Warsaw was limited in line with governmental restrictions. However, these restrictions didn’t hinder the course of the event as the organisers provided tools for online participation as well.
During the Assembly, AZS distinguished 16 student-athletes with the Medal of Bronislaw Czech.
This esteemed group of university sports competitors included four-time gold Summer Universiade gold medalist and four-time world champion hammer thrower Paweł Fajdek, Nordic Combined competitor Adam Cieślar, ten-time international medalist in Swimming Konrad Czerniak, Summer Universiade shot put silver medalist Paulina Guba, Winter Universiade medalist snowboarder Oskar Kwiatkowski, and two-time Winter Universiade gold medalist speed skater Jan Szymański.
The distinguished student-athletes honoured during the AZS General Assembly included a host of Summer and WInter Universiade gold medalists, Summer and Winter Olympic medalists and world champions
Several representatives of AZS received the title of honorary member, among who was Professor Alexander Ronikier who is also a FISU Honorary Member.
This General Assembly welcomed as well distinguished guests, including representatives from Poland’s Ministry of Sport, the Ministry of High Education, the President of the Polish Olympic Committee Andrzej Krasnicki, and the main sponsor “LOTOS.”
The new AZS executive board was elected during the Poland’s annual General Assembly last Saturday night in Warsaw
President Krasnicki presented the Medals of 100-annual of the Polish Olympic Committee to Alojzy Nowak, Adam Roczek, Dariusz Piekut and some other AZS representatives. President Krasnicki wished the new AZS board good luck and success during their four-year mandate.
With the Polish Olympic Committee recently celebrating its centennial, the General Assembly highlighted the many Olympic achievements of Poland made by AZS athletes. For each edition of the Summer and Winter Olympics, the nation’s university sports association continues to contribute world-class performers to the composition to the Polish Olympic team.
