Russian Students Sport Union appoints Maxim Urazov Director-General

In a show of the significant contribution that the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade had on university sport in the country, the Russian Student Sport Union has appointed Maxim Urazov as Director-General. Currently the Winter Universiade 2019 Director-General, Urazov will combine duties these coming months as Krasnoyarsk prepares for significant sports events coming to the Krasnoyarsk Territory this winter. At the FISU Member Association for Russia, Urazov will work alongside the student sport union’s president, Sergey Sevranov.

The Russian Students Sport Union is an all-Russian public organization endowed with the mission of organising and popularising university sports in Russia. The sports union has a philosophy that embraces international cooperation in university sports develop.

 

Look for the RSSU to further advance in this area as FISU recently selected Ekaterinburg, Russia as the Summer Universiade host in 2023. Currently, the union includes 64 regional branches in 8 federal districts of the country.

RSSU President Seyranov voiced his approval of Urazov’s appointment.

“The experience of holding one of the most exciting and at the same time well-organized sports events in Russia, the Winter Universiade 2019 in Krasnoyarsk showed that the interest in university sports is huge,” the RSSU President said.

 

“The decision to appoint Maxim Urazov as Director-General of the Russian Students Sport Union was made for the development of the university sports movement in our country,” Seyranov added. “I am glad that now we will work together to involve as many young people as possible in our sports projects.”

Urazov’s initial primary tasks at RSSU will be implementing international projects such as the Summer Universiades and World University Championships under the aegis of FISU, further developing university sports in Russia, and bringing the innovative ideas and experience gained from leading Winter Universiade 2019 to strengthen the development of mass sport across the country.

“I am very grateful for the trust shown in me,” Urazov said. “This is another confirmation that the Winter Universiade 2019 made a significant contribution to the development of sport not only in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, but also in Russia. Over the years of preparation for the first-ever Winter Universiade in Russia, we have gained tremendous experience, which we can now apply to the further development of university sports in Russia.”

Among the international sports events coming to the Winter Universiade 2019 host city is the World Junior Curling Championships 2020, FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup 2020, and the 2022 Senior Wrestling World Championships. The Krasnoyarsk Territory is also currently in the bidding candidature phase for the right to host various other events.
