The Brazilians are set to compete in 14 sport disciplines at Summer Universiade 2017. Look for the Brazilians to shine bright in athletics, swimming and fencing – and football and volleyball, of course.
SAO PAULO – The Brazilian delegation informed 300 selected athletes who will participate at the Taipei Summer Universiade 2017. The delegation disembarking to Chinese Taipei represents the biggest crew from South America and one of the largest in Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU) history.

Brazil will participate in 14 sports disciplines, marked by a strong presence in athletics, taekwondo, judo, wushu, swimming, as well as in team sports in which historically has had privileged positions, such as football and volleyball. In addition, the Brazilian team will compete in diving, tennis, table tennis, badminton, weightlifting, fencing and rhythmic gymnastics.
One of Brazilian university selection highlights is the presence of more than 20 Olympic student-athletes. Among them are sprinter Aldemir Gomes da Silva Junior, Andressa Oliveira de Morais (discus throw), who participated in London 2012 and Rio 2016, Tatiele Roberta de Carvalho (10.00 metres), and Vanessa Chefer Spinola in heptathlon.

In swimming Brazilian Olympians set to compete at the Taipei Summer Universiade include Allan Lopes Mamedio do Carmo, Leonardo Gomes de Deus and Graciele Herrmann, with both having the experience of two Olympic Games each. There were also Olympians of the discipline in Rio 2016 Daiene Marçal Dias, Daynara Paula, Gabriel da Silva Santos, Henrique de Souza Martins, Larissa Martins de Oliveira, Italo Manzine Amaral Duarte Garofalo and Manuella Duarte Lyrio.
Brazil’s talented fencers will face off against a many other top-level fencing athletes in Taipei
There will also be the Olympians Henrique Tavian Pereira Marques and Nicolas Massao Ferreira Silva in fencing, Ian Carlos Gonçalves de Matos, Jackson André Rondinelli de Oliveira, and Tammy Galera Takagi in diving, and Maicon Andrade Siqueira (bronze in Rio 2016) and Venilton Torres Teixeira in taekwondo.
The target of Taipei Summer Universiade 2017 is in sight and nearly upon university sports fans from around the world.
