FISU present at 13th EAS Conference in Rovaniemi, Finland

ROVANIEMI – The Annual EAS Conference took place in former Winter Universiade Host City Rovaniemi, Finland (7th WU in 1970) from 15 to 17 September, 2016. European Athlete as Student Network (EAS) focuses on solving the challenges regarding dual careers, and also sharing knowledge and best practices about dual careers with all stakeholders. This 13th Annual Conference was held under the topic of ‘Enhancing European Partnerships in Sports and Education’ at Santasport Institute. Ms. Hilkka Pöyhönen, Assessor of FISU represented FISU at the event.  

The Conference was opened by Ms. Laura Capranica, President of EAS, Ms. Outi Hyry-Honka, Director at Lapland University of Applied Sciences and Ms. Kaarina Määttä, Vice-rector at the University of Lapland. As a key note speaker, Ms. Natalia Stambulova from Halmstadt University, Sweden, gave a lecture with the topic of ‘Psychology of Dual Career- European Perspectives and Insights’. The afternoon continued with workshops on the challenges of dual career, and solving them. On the second day, Mr Simo Tarvonen from the Finnish Olympic Committee spoke about ‘Dual career system in Finland: Challenges and Good Practices in Athletes Path’, followed by Mr. Mikko Pohjola and Mr. Juuso Toivola, presenting Dual Career in Lapland Sports Academy and Santasport. In the afternoon, Ms. Agata Dziarnowska from European Commission, explained sports role in European Union.
