FISU President at China-US Strategic Dialogue on Student Sports

BEIJING – On 7 June 2016, the 7th Annual China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange (CPE) kicked off at the National Museum of China, which was co-chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and US Secretary of State John Kerry. High-level officials from the countries’ education, culture, health, science and technology, women, sports and youth sectors met on this occasion.

FISU President MatytsinInvited by the Chinese government, FISU President Oleg Matytsin came to Beijing, attending high level events as the main VIP guest of China. As one of the ‘rich calendar’ planed for the CPE, China–US Strategic Dialogue on Student Sports opened in the morning of 7 June, FISU President Oleg Matytsin gave the welcome speech. He highly praised the role both China and USA played, saying that “with Fifty-seven years of development, FISU is a global organization counting 170 members. The sports models in both China and the USA are efficient and inspiring and could be used by many others as examples of best-practice.” He also mentioned that “Sport is one of the best agents for developing leadership skills amongst young people. FISU’s vision is to use sport’s unique qualities to create a world where every leader in society has been positively influenced by University Sport.”

FISU Vice-President and FUSC Secretary General Yang Liguo, University Sports Ambassador Yao Ming, the presidents of elite universities such as Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Notre Dame University, United State Sports Academy etc. and global CEOs from giant enterprises such as NIKE, NBA, HUPU sports etc. were present at the Dialogue.

As one of the most important achievements of the Dialogue, FUSC signed an agreement with NIKE and the University of Notre Dame, which concluded the dialogue productively and fruitfully. The dialogue was widely broadcasted by the national press, like CCTV, Xinhua News, People’s Daily, People’s Daily Online, China Education Daily, China Sports Daily etc. and was lively broadcasted by “JSPORTS”, a popular video website in China.

As one of the most important side events of CPE, the China-US university soccer friendship game was officially opened in the afternoon of 7th, Mr. Oleg Matytsin and Yang Liguo were invited to kick off the 1st ball for this official match between Beijing Normal University and Duke University.
