EUSA General Assembly opens with the EUSA Forum

WROCLAW – On 8 April, EUSA opened its elective General Assembly 2016 with the Forum.

Adam Roczek, EUSA President, and then Marian Dymalski, FISU Vice-President and Secretary General of the Academic Sports Association of Wrocław (POL), welcomed the participants. Mr Dymalski showed a video presenting the Polish Academic Sports Association (AZS), the NUSF hosting the event. After that, the Croatian ambassador in Poland, Andrea Bekic, took the floor to express the support of the Croatian Government to the next EUSA Games 2016 in Zagreb-Rijeka. Ms Bekic has a special connection to university sport as she took part in the Summer Universiade Zagreb 1987 as a volunteer.

Then, the president of the Organising Committee of the EUSA Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016, Zrinko Custonja, who is also the president of the Croatian University Sports Federation, presented the progress made in the organisation of the Games, which will be held from 12 to 25 July. He thanked EUSA and the President of the Republic of Croatia for their support. Student athletes will be competing in 21 sports and, for the first time in EUSA history, 2 para-sports. Zagreb will also host the first EUSA Rectors’ Conference. The opening and closing ceremonies will be broadcast live on national television.

The President of the Portuguese University Sports Federation (FADU), Daniel Monteiro, and the Secretary General of the Organising Committee of the EUSA Games Coimbra 2018, Mario Santos, took the floor to present the Games which will be held in Portugal. Mr Santos highlighted the legacy of the Games for the city and for the University of Coimbra, which has already started to enhance its sport services and to promote dual careers for its students.

The EUSA Forum ended with the presentation of the bids from Belgrade (SRB) and Tampere (FIN) for the EUSA Games 2020.
