
SAO PAULO – The General Assembly of FISU America opened on Saturday 13 February in Sao Paulo, hosted by the NUSF of Brazil CBDU.
The President of FISU America, Luciano Cabral, thanked all the members for their work and achievements in just over a year to put the American continental federation back on track. He thanked member federations for coming to Sao Paulo and said they demonstrate the new dynamism of FISU America. He also thanked FISU for its support during this transitional period. Then he gave the floor to the FISU 1st Vice-President, Leonz Eder, who addressed the meeting with these words:

“Dear Mr President, Dear EC Members and Delegates of FISU America, Dear friends,
It’s my great honour and pleasure to be with you today. Let me first express the best wishes and regards from the FISU President, Oleg Matytsin, to all of you. As you have noticed during his electoral speech in Lausanne and also in his manifest, the continental federations play an important role for FISU in the mind of the FISU President. As new Chairman of the Development Committee I am happy to work with your leadership during this mandate in order to fulfil the duties of our common vision for the development of university sport. I thank you for your great involvement in university sport in your countries, on your continent and in FISU. Let’s work together, let’s overcome the difficulties and problems, let’s be united for the benefit of our student athletes.

On the agenda, there were the reports from the President, the Secretary General and the Treasurer, which were approved by the delegates of the 18 countries attending the meeting. After the discharge of the incumbent Executive Committee, the election of the new board took place in a peaceful and constructive atmosphere. The new board is composed as follows:

Secretary-General: Sandy Rodriguez (VEN)
Treasurer: Emilio Ojea (ARG)
Assessors: June Caddle (BAR), Eduardo Ramirez (PER), Luis Sterling (DOM) and America Diaz (HON)

Leonz Eder then gave the official FISU plaque to the new Executive Committee and highlighted the quality of the meeting and the good atmosphere during the election. He added that FISU America demonstrated its maturity and that it is ready to resume its role within the university sports movement to the benefit of student-athletes in the Americas.
