FISU present at Turkmenistan International Sports Media Forum

ASHGABAT – From 2 to 3 April, 2015 the Turkmenistan International Sports Media Forum was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The Forum gathered sports journalists and guests from around the world to experience first-hand Turkmenistan’s preparations to host the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2017 (AIMAG 2017). The Games will bring more than 8,000 athletes from 62 countries to Ashgabat. Among participants were representatives of top media corporations such as CNN International, Wall Street International Magazine, Korean Broadcasting System, as well as heads of international sports federations and agencies. FISU was represented by its 1st Vice-President Oleg Matytsin.

The participants and guests had a unique chance to visit a most modern Olympic Complex, a huge government investment project with brand new venues including the largest indoor cycling track in the world that can host 6,000 spectators.

FISU 1st Vice-President Oleg Matytsin took part in the Forum and Asiada-2017 Conference where he represented FISU, its activities and the university sports movement worldwide. In his speech he spoke about the importance of university sport in modern society and the positive impact of the large scale sporting events such as Universiade on the local community.

In the framework of the Forum, Mr Matytsin had some important meetings with Turkmenistan sports authorities, heads of international sports federations and media agencies.

During his meeting with Dayanch Gulgeldiev, AIMAG Executive Committee Chairman and Vice-President of the Turkmenistan National Olympic Committee and Azat Muradov, Secretary-General of the Turkmenistan National Olympic Committee, the main topic of discussion was the possibilities in organizing FISU international university sports projects in Turkmenistan.

Another important meeting were held with WTF President Chung Won Choue, JTA Chairman Jon Tibbs and AIPS President Gianni Merlo to discuss opportunities for mutual collaboration.
