Busy 2015 Competitions Calendar for CBDU

24 March 2015

BRASILIA – On 14 March, the Brazilian University Sport Association (CBDU) organized its Annual General Assembly, held in Brasília, at the CBDU Headquarters. CBDU President and FISU Vice-President Luciano Cabral and representatives from all the 27 State University Federations of Brazil gathered together with the Steering Committee to discuss new regulations to be applied in Brazilian University Sport and approved the 2015 Competitions Calendar. The General Assembly also announced Uberlândia, Minas Gerais as the host city for the 2015 Brazilian University Games (JUBs), the biggest Brazilian University Sport Competition and debated about having 5 bidding cities for 5 different FISU World University Championships in 2018, due to the huge success of the 3 FISU WUC’s held in Brazil, last year (Basket 3×3, Rugby 7s and Triathlon).

This year’s CBDU calendar will have 13 events in total, one more than in 2014. The University Sport League (LDU) hosts 10 of those events, i.e. 2 Regional, 8 national and covers 14 sports (Rugby 7s, Basketball 3×3, Basketball, Handball, Futsal, Tennis, Chess, Volleyball, Football, Football 7s, Beach Handball, Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball and Futvôlei). In 2015, the Brazilian football student-players from all the Federal States will once more have the chance to compete together in the 2nd edition of the Brazil University Cup of Female Football, which will take place in Maceió City (Alagoas). Last year, Brasília hosted the first edition of this tournament.

From 24 to 28 March, João Pessoa city (Paraíba) hosted the first competition of the Brazilian University Sport Association (CBDU) in 2015, i.e. the North/Northeast Regional Phase of the University Sport League (LDU). The Competition took place in 7 venues located in João Pessoa with free admission for the public. Around 900 student-athletes from 8 states battled for medals and a chance to be at the Final National Phase in Brasília, in June.

The biggest change for the 2015 CBDU Calendar will be the addition of a Table Tennis tournament, that will help to form the national team that is going to represent Brazil at the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju. Like table tennis, some of the LDU events will also serve as trials for other sports included in the Official Programme of the Gwangju 2015 Summer Universiade.
