Pink Jerseys and Spanish Passion

5 February 2015

GRANADA – Today, 5 February, at Day 3 of the men’s ice hockey tournament the spectators saw Russia beat Korea (11-1), Sweden loose to Canada (0-7) while USA got beaten by Japan 2-3.

China plays in pink jerseys

At Day 2 for the women’s ice hockey competition, China surprised the spectators reversing a 0-1 into a 2-1 victory at the end of a thrilling and fast paced game. Forward Fang Xin was instrumental in putting China back into the game. “I’m really proud of that first goal, as a student of Harbin Sports University I’m proud that I can play at this Universiade presenting my university and my country”, she commented. China surprised the hockey community playing in pink jerseys instead of the traditionally red and yellow. “There is no story behind the choice of the colour”, Fang Xin explained. “Pink integrates enthusiasm”, she said. “We will play our best in this tournament.”

Goalie Carlota Alvarado: “The Spanish fans are passionate!”

Spain faced-off against Team Japan drawing a full house crowd to cheer the home team. “We knew it was going to be a tough game. I ate a lot of shots”, Spanish goalie Carlota Alvarado commented after the 11-0 loss. “We did our outmost. We are playing against all those hockey countries and that’s a great experience. Like last edition in Trentino. We played against Canada, we lost but it’s so amazing to play against these teams. It will be more than a learning experience. We have to show that we are not easy to beat.” Putting on that national jersey and playing in front of a full house home crowd is the best for this translator student of the University of Barcelona. “They were shouting my name with a lot of passion, even if we lost. The crowd kept supporting us. What a great feeling!”
