
MUKONO – The Eastern Africa University Sports Federation (EAUSF) held its Scientific Symposium on 15 and 16 December 2014 at the Uganda Christian University in Mukono, Uganda. Various papers were presented at this event that precedes the Eastern Africa University Games under the theme; “Sports Pamoja – University Sports: Improving Sports Management in the Region.”

The Symposium was opened by the President of EAUSF, Mr. Cyriaco Kabagambe, from Makerere University who thanked participants and organizers for putting together such a great informative and academic symposium. He encouraged participants to implement findings to improve sports management as the theme suggested, to avoid just having nice ideas on paper.

The keynote paper was given by Prof. Era Mugisa, a renowned scholar and one of the founder members of FASU. He presented on, “Sports for all in Universities”. The EAUSF Secretary General, Simon Munai from University of Nairobi who presented on “Challenges in the hosting of University Games”; and “What exactly are we teaching in physical education”. The FASU Secretary General Peninnah K. Aligawesa presented on FASU’s journey since 1971. Anne Tweheyo from the Counseling Department of Uganda Christian University presented on “Sports psychology in student world,” urging sports leaders to involve the counselors in sports for the betterment of the athletes. The FASU Administrator Hannington Musoke presented on “Brand Identity, evaluating the performance of University Sports Uganda at its events of 2013 and 2014” and “Evaluating factors affecting participation in FASU sports events and way forward.”
In total, 12 papers were presented at the symposium which ended on 16th December 2014.
