Seminar on the Development of Asian University Sport 2014

TAIPEI CITY – On 4 November, the Seminar on the Development of Asian University Sports was staged in Fu Jen Catholic University. The main theme of the Seminar was ‘Present and Future Trend in the Development of Asian Activity’ with 3 sub-themes, namely, ‘New Brian of University Sports in Curriculum and Teaching’, the ‘Importance of the Promotion and Development of University Sports Activity’, and ‘Study of Physical and Healthy Lifestyle for College Students’.

In the Opening Ceremony, the President of the Organizing Committee, who is also the President of Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation and Fu Jen Catholic University, Dr. Chiang Han Sun addressed the participants and audience, “We are honored to host the first AUSF Seminar in Chinese Taipei. I hope during the 2-day seminar, scholars from Asia could exchange your academic achievements, while the younger generation could learn more knowledge and expand their world vision here.” AUSF President, Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, in his speech, reviewed the history of AUSF, mentioned the inevitable role of sports in education and wished the first AUSF Seminar a big success, all the participants could share the ideas through this stage and learn something by face to face communication.

The Opening Ceremony followed the keynote presentation by Dr. CHEN Kun-ning, AUSF Vice-President and Vice-President of National Pingtung University. He elaborated on the AUSF situation, including the structure, members, purpose, the organizational structure and AUSF’s role in promoting physical education in Asia. He appealed all the participants to support AUSF and to work together to make a better university sports environment. Then, Mr. HUANG Sen-fang, Associate Professor and Director of Physical Education Center of Tzu Chi University in Chinese Taipei made his presentation on sub-theme I. He clarified several definitions in Physical Education field and talked several controversial questions and he tried to provide solutions by illustrating the example of PE curriculum at Tzu Chi University, local policy and social trend in Chinese Taipei, and shared the 18 advisors’ suggestions he interviewed, his adequate and well-controlled studies received great applause.

In the afternoon Session, Dr. HA Woong Yong, AUSF Auditor and Professor of Korea National Sport University, shared the practice in Korea and USA. He also made a creative and prospective thought on the AUSF’s future development, including finding more potential sponsors, exploring more cooperation opportunities with relative International Sport Federations, etc. The audiences marveled at the developed university sports system and appreciated the constructive study by Dr. HA. Dr. Mahdi TALEBPOUR, AUSF assessor and Professor of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad brought his study on sub-theme III. He shared the background that nowadays, living in a modern industrial society with advanced scientific facilities had already resulted in many physical and psychological problems for human beings, especially among university students, who were more prone to use the smart devices frequently and exercise less. He pointed out that the unhealthy lifestyle was the main reason for severe diseases such as cancer and heart failure and early death. He suggested that university students should control stress, eat right, exercise regularly, rest mind and spirit, get variety in life and be positive.

This seminar was not just for discussing but also for building up the connection within different countries and regions in Asia. The Seminar on the Development of Asian University Sports 2014 was filled with expanding visions, friendship, and left unforgettable memories to all the participants.
