ARACAJU – The 62nd Brazilian University Games (JUBs 2014) has just started on this Friday (31), in the city of Aracaju, Sergipe, located on the northeast coast of Brazil. More than 3,000 student-athletes from the 26 states of Brazil, plus the Federal District will be taking part in these Games organized by the Brazilian University Sport Association (CBDU).
This year, the JUBs will last for 8 days, divided in 2 weeks: Individual sports (Athletics, Chess, Judo, Beach Volleyball, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Swimming and Tennis ) from 31 October to 2 November and Team Sports (Basketball, Futsal, Handball and Volleyball) , from 4 to 8 November. The competition has the participation of Olympic athletes who have been to Universiades and also World Championships in different sports like the swimmers Joana Maranhão and Lucas Salatta, both athletes went to the Olympic Games in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Last Thursday (30), the Games Opening Ceremony welcomed all participants. The event had traditional local cultural attractions, a symphonic orchestra with 80 kids and also the State flags parade.
“Each year the Games become bigger and explore a new city. In 62 years of history the JUBs never came to Aracaju. We take this event to different locations. We can notice the evolution in number and also quality”, CBDU President and FISU Vice-President Luciano Cabral commented.
In order to help the university sport become well known in Brazil, CBDU has also set up a new standard for the JUBs. All competition days will be broadcasted live on www.cbdu.org.br. This way family, friends and sport lovers can follow all the details and support their favorite athletes.
The 62nd Brazilian University Games are organized by the Brazilian University Sport Association and the University Sport Federation of Sergipe, with the local support from the Mayor of Aracaju and the Sport Ministry of Brazil.
