OPATIJA – The 7th World University Bridge Championship opened todzy in the city of Opatija, Croatia. This sunny city is just half an hour away from last years EUSA University Bridge Championship host city of Kraljevica. Which brought old and new bridge student-players in this region, representing their respective countries: Austria, Belgium, China, Czech republic, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey and Croatia.

The tournament will last until 6 November. The WUC is held under the patronage of the president of Croatia Ivo Josipović. The opening ceremony was attended by Organizing Committee President Haris Pavletic; the Mayor of City of Opatija Ivo Dujmic; President of the European Bridge League Yves Aubry; President of the Croatian Bridge Federation Jurica Caric; Vice-Rector of the University of Rijeka Zlatan Car; President of the Student Union Aleksandar Susnjar; Deputy Mayor of the City of Rijeka Marko Filipović; Deputy Mayor of the City of Opatija Fernando Kirigin; FISU EC member Hisato Igarashi; FISU CIS representative Alan Sharp; FISU Secretariat delegate Julien Buhajezuk and FISU Medical Committee member Roland Questel.
