Rashid Hall, 2nd Vice-President of Intercol
LONDON – British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) recently hosted a two-week study visit to Great Britain by Rashid Hall, 2nd Vice-President of the Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association (Intercol).
Rashid, who is also currently Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator at the University of the West Indies Sports Department, undertook the visit as part of Intercol’s mission to expose young sports administrators to new administrative practices in order to help develop their federation.
Neil Rogers, BUCS Head of International Programmes commented: “BUCS were delighted to work with Rashid and colleagues from Intercol to support this new initiative, and very much welcome the opportunities from sharing good practice and working methodologies with our partner organisations in EUSA and FISU”
Week one of the programme was based in the BUCS offices in London where Rashid worked alongside the BUCS staff – while during week two, Rashid worked to help deliver the BUCS Annual Conference and Awards Dinner in Swansea. The conference had the theme ““University Sport and the World Stage” and took place over 4 days with more than 400 delegates.
Anthony Davis, President of Intercol and a member of FISU’s Education Committee was also a guest speaker at the BUCS Conference, and said of the study visit: “This sort of creative thinking can facilitate increased bi-lateral linkages with FISU members and contributes to improving the capacity of National Federations to provide more effective and efficient services to our student athletes”

Rashid reflected: “The exchange programme with BUCS was a great opportunity. The staff were very open and welcoming which helped the process of information exchange in a big way. This exchange programme has certainly opened my eyes and has my brain buzzing with ideas for us here in Jamaica. It’s another great example of how sporting associations across the globe can work together to help with the development of sport”
BUCS Intern Greg Sturge will similarly be undertaking a working exchange in September with Australian University Sports (AUS). Greg’s visit will consist of two weeks at Monash University in Melbourne, followed by two weeks in Sydney helping support delivery of the Australia University Games on behalf of AUS.
