SAO JOSE DOS CAMPOS – Initiated by ODUPA Vice-President, Delise O’Meally, and hosted by CBDU, an ODUPA Extraordinary General Assembly was held in São José dos Campos (BRA), together with the 6th World University Rugby Sevens Championship.

After three years marked by various problems, this Extraordinary General Assembly was aimed to revitalise the continental federation. Seventeen countries attended the assembly, which took place in accordance with the statutory conditions.

The outgoing Executive Committee first presented its report and then tendered its resignation. A transitional committee could thus take over for the next 10 months, until the Elective General Assembly is held in Gwangju (KOR) together with the Summer Universiade.

The transitional committee is composed of the following members:

President: Luciano Cabral (BRA)

1st Vice-President: Delise O’Meally (USA)

Vice-Presidents: Julio Jakob (URU) and Anthony Davis (JAM)

General Secretary: Alberto Gilardoni (PAR)

Treasurer: Rosaura Mendez (CRC)

Auditor: Julio Gueda (MEX)

Nothern Region Representative: Gilles Lépine (CAN)

ODUCC Representative: Sonia Stapf Gomez (PAN)

COSUD Reprensentative: Alim Maluf (BRA)

Four committees were created to invigorate the work of ODUPA:

– Development committee

– Marketing and public relations committee

– Legal committee

– Sports and education committee

During this General Assembly, Mr Stefan Bergh, FISU Vice-President, officially gave a FISU plaque to Mr Luciano Cabral to welcome the new Executive Committee, and to Ms Delise O’Meally for her initiative. The Executive Committee was summoned the next day. An action plan has been adopted and launched with a precise timeline and the person in charge was designated.
