7th WUC Beach Volleyball – Day 1 of Competitions

24 July 2014

PORTO – Yesterday, 23 July, the first competitions of the 7th World University Beach Volleyball Championship kicked off in Porto. Despite the uninviting beach weather, the seats were crowded with the presence of many children and young beach volleyball enthusiasts. Throughout the day, 56 games took place at Matosinhos Beach, 32 games in the men’s competition and 24 in the women’s.

In men’s competition, the Brazilian duo Bastos/Lazzari (BRA1) began to show their good form on the pitch, as well as the German team Holler/Schröder (GER1), as both came out victorious of the games they played.

In the women’s tournament, the Polish duo Soja/Filip (POL2) fulfilled their goal winning their two games, an accomplishment also achieved by the Portuguese pair Oliveira/Resende (POR1). The Portuguese girls spent a day without difficulties in the competition and defeated the two teams they faced.

Judging from what happened on the pitch yesterday, the spectators will witness some very close battles, making it difficult to do any predictions of the final ranking.
