NAIROBI – With just a few days left to the kick-off of the 7th All Africa University Games at the University of Nairobi, in Kenya’s capital city Nairobi, 19 Countries have confirmed their participation at the biennial event scheduled for 11to 18 July, 2014.
Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, DRC, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe are geared to compete at this continental university sport show piece in Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Karate, Netball, Soccer, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Handball, Rugby 7s and Taekwondo. American Football, Sitting Volleyball and Woodball were included in the programme as demonstration sports.
“We are all geared up to host the countries. The LOC has worked very hard to try and make all participants comfortable during their stay in Nairobi.” said Mr. Simon Munayi the Secretary General of the Local Organising Committee.
The previous games (6th Editon) was hosted by the University of Namibia in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia from 15 to 21 December 2012 attracting 18 countries with Egypt beating stiff competition from Algeria to emerge as overall winners of the games.
