FISU ‘Legends’ receive ‘Jean Petitjean’ Award

26 May 2014

BRUSSELS – At the FISU Reception on Saturday 24 May in the FIDSU Headquarters at the occasion of the Executive Committee meeting in Brussels (23-25 May), the FISU Award ‘Jean Petitjean’ was presented to a number of persons who have contributed immensely to the work of FISU. The Award refers to the first FISU President and is awarded to individuals for outstanding services to the FISU Community.

Four persons received the Award out of the hands of FISU Present Claude-Louis Gallien and FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond.

CUSI President Lorenzo Lentini received the Award from the FISU President Gallien

The award was given posthumously to Leonardo Coiana (ITA). The former president of CUSI, who passed away recently, has been a driving force within the International University Sport Movement, working behind the scenes to bring several Universiades and World University Championships to Italy. He also has been a FISU Technical Delegate for Golf. The Award was received by the current CUSI president Lorenzo Lentini.

Fritz Holzer (SUI), FISU Emeritus honorary member, received the award for Mr. Bosshard

The ‘Petitjean Award’ was also presented to Rudolf Bosshard (SUI) who was a FISU Vice-President (1957-61) and played an important role in the early years of FISU. Fritz Holzer (SUI), FISU Emeritus honorary member, received the award as Mr. Bosshard could not attend the ceremony.

Dr. Anastassov, FISU President Gallien & FISU SG/CEO Saintrond

The award was also presented to Constantin Anastassov (BUL), former EC member of FISU and Emeritus Honorary Member since 2003. Dr. Anastassov has been involved in FISU since 1962 as a CIC member and occupied some key positions within the FISU board since then, such as Vice-President (1975 – 1991) and 1st Assessor (1991 – 2003). He was also a driving force behind the four candidatures of Bulgaria to land the Universiades in Sofia (2 WU & 2 SU). He is still an active member of the History Committee of FISU.

Mr. Campana receives the Award from the FISU President and SG/CEO

Last, but not least, Roch Campana (BEL), former Secretary-General of FISU, also received the Award for his long-time services to university sport and FISU. In his long career as the Secretary-General, Mr. Campana made plenty of contributions to the development of the International University Sport Movement but he also developed the secretariat of FISU with a continuous growth of staff members. Mr. Campana is also still an active member of the History Committee of FISU.
