ULAANBAATAR – On 16 January, MSSF, the NUSF of Mongolia, presented the book “University Sports and Universiade” at the Central Sports Palace in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Author of this book is Mr. Jargalsaikhan D., MSSF Secretary-General and CIC Member of FISU. Managing Editor of the book is Mr. Bayasgalan D., FISU Treasurer and MSSF President. “It was a tremendous task”, said Dr. Jargalsaikhan, “as it is the very first book on university sport in Mongolia”.

During the presentation of the book, special guests were invited to give short remarks including Mr. Tumenjargal M., Vice Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism; Mr. Erkhembulgan, Director of High Education Ministry of Education and Science; Mr. Bayasgalan D., FISU Treasurer and MSSF President; Mr. Batsaikhan Kh., President of the Mongolian Student Union and the MSSF Board members. Also present were the Presidents and Secretary-Generals of a number of national sports federations, Head of Sports Departments and teachers from more than 20 universities in Ulaanbaatar, as well as coaches and athletes. Most notable among the 70 guests were former Universiade athletes and Universiade gold medalists Mr. Natsagdorj Ts. (Wrestling – 1973), Mr. Z. Oidov (Wrestling – 1977) and Mrs. Bundmaa M. (Judo – 2007).
“University Sports and Universiade” is a color printed 186 pages book, with 2,000 copies of the book printed and published on 4 January, 2014. The book comprises of 4 different chapters, i.e. ‘World University History – 1905-2013’; ‘International University Sports Federation – 1949-2013’; ‘Summer and Winter Universiade History – 1959-2013’; ‘Asian University Sports Federation and Sports Events – 1992-2013’. The book was printed on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of FISU (1949), the 55th anniversary of the first Summer Universiade (1959) and the 25th anniversary of MSSF (1989).

“This book will play a key role on our objective to develop and further increase the knowledge and awareness of university sport and the Universiade”, FISU Treasurer Bayasgalan commented.

The ‘University Sports and Universiade’ book is officially to be used as textbook within the national physical education programme of the Mongolian higher education system, in accordance with the resolution of the Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia, effective from 1 January, 2014.
