Kazakh Minister of Education Visits Trentino

17 December 2013

FISU President Gallien & Aslan Sarinzhipov, the Kazakh Minister of Education and Science

TRENTOAslan Sarinzhipov, the Kazakh Minister of Education and Science, met today with FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien. The main topic was of course the Almaty 2017 Winter Universiade, about which Gallien offered advice.

The meeting began with a promising fact for the Almaty games: at the Trentino Universiade, the Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism, out of 620 universities, has 43 athletes competing in the games, which is the most out of any institution.

Gallien stressed how FISU will provide as much support as possible for Alamty in hosting the games. He emphasized how one of the most important factors for a successful tournament is the human resources, which among many others includes technicians and volunteers.

While the Universiade was the main focus of the discussion, the topic of Almaty’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics was also discussed. The FISU President highlighted how the Universiade can be vital in their bid, as they would have developed all these human resources over four years before the Olympic Games.

Sarinzhipov was particularly interested in how to promote sport in general, in relation to the Kazakh government agenda of engaging 30 percent of the population in active sport.

The meeting ended with an exchange of gifts and with a firm sense of positivity and collaboration between the two parties.
