President of Poland praises the AZS

WARSAW On 27 November ,2013 members of the AZS met the President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski. In his speech the President emphasised the importance of mass sport, which is often a very first step to a professional career. “I am confident, that every sports enthusiast, as well as those, who manage sport, know very well that the basis of professional sport is youth sport. That is why I would like to thank this organisation. It is worth to promote and support amateur sport.”

The President also presented certified Polish national flags to the AZS’ athletes and officials. President Komorowski remembered hammer thrower Pawel Fajdek, world champion and Universiade medallist and his date of birth. “On 4 June 2014 we will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first free elections in Poland since World War II. It will be a moment to summarize our achievements since then. I have already checked, that Mr. Pawel Fajdek was born exactly on the very same day”, said Komorowski.

Marek Rocki, AZS President, was very grateful for the President’s invitation. “I would like to thank you, Mr. President, for your interest in academic sport. I am satisfied that you have appreciated our efforts for Polish student sport, since more than 100 years.” Later Rocki emphasised the assistance AZS receives from governmental institutions. “Thanks to the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education we can realize our programmes: not only by taking part in academic sport competitions across the globe, by also on the campus of universities.”
