
GUIMARÃES – From 5 to 12 May, more than 750 participants attended the European City of Sport Guimarães for the Portuguese University Championships 2013 in Individual Sports. The event, organised by the University of Minho Student’s Union, was held in 12 sports: Chess, Kickboxing, Karate, Korfball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Squash, Snooker, Outdoor Archery, Taekwondo, Footvolley and Athletics.

One of the most participated championships was Athletics, with 170 university students. With the emphasis on the participation of Carla Salomé Rocha, World University Vice-champion in Cross Country in 2012, and Sónia Tavares, Bronze Medallist (100 m) at the Belgrade Universiade in 2009 and who also participated in Shenzhen in 2011. Both athletes won the gold medal at the Portuguese University Championship, in 3,000 meters steeplechase and 100 meters respectively.
University Minho Taekwondo Team
Taekwondo is a very popular sport at the University of Minho. Its athletes won 26 medals and captured the team title as well.
After the Individual Sports 2013 ended, FADU returned to the region of Minho for the debut of two aquatic sports, Water Polo and Canoeing. The events were also hosted by the University of Minho Student’s Union with the support from the University of Minho.
