FECUNDE stages Successful National University Games in Costa Rica

3 May 2013

LA SABANA – On 28 April, JUNCOS, the National University Games in Costa Rica, came to an end. During this 10-day event, successful competitions were held in eight sport disciplines. More than 1,200 students from 14 different universities competed in the university sport venues on campus and in other important landmark buildings such as the National Stadium and the multi-sports centre in La Sabana.

The closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Luis Guillermo Carpio Malavassi, current president of the National Council of Rectors and Mrs. Alba Delgado, National Sports Director. FISU was represented by Dr Rosa Mendez, EC member and Gender Equality Committee Chair.

‘I would like to congratulate the Costa Rican Federation of University Sport (FECUNDE) with the successful organisation of this sports festival that was staged on the occasion of its 30th anniversary as an organisation. I would like to recognise FECUNDE as a driving force for national sport and for its tireless work to promote university sport’, Mrs. Mendez said. ‘I’m confident that the participation of FECUNDE members in FISU events and their direct contact with this dynamic organisation will encourage regional organisers of events to further improve their organisation.’

This time, the JUNCTOS organisation could rely on the use of the latest technology to facilitate the work of accreditation.

The next edition of JUNCOS will be held at the State University of Distance Education (UNED) in 2015.
