Kolë Gjeloshaj with Tofig KhanaliyevBAKU – The Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) of UNESCO and its Consultative Permanent Committee, of which FISU is a member, met in Baku, Azerbaijan. The purpose of the meeting was the preparation of the declaration to be adopted at the 5th International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS V), to be held in Berlin from 28 to 30 May 2013.
The declaration focuses on three different subjects:
– Access to sport as a fundamental right for all;
– Promoting investment in physical education and sport programmes;
– Preserving the integrity of sport.
The delegate of FISU, Kolë Gjeloshaj took the opportunity to meet with Tofig Khanaliyev, President of the NUSF of Azerbaijan, and Bika Qurbanova, Head of the International Department.
Presentation of Genjlik FSSS, the NUSF of Azerbaijan
Freewill Sport Student Society was founded in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1936 and it was called Burevestnik. In 1987 it ceased activity owing to structural changes in sports. The activity of the society was restored on 15 May 1992 and the society was named Genjlik Freewill Student Sport Society. Genjlik Freewill Student Sport Society is a major student sports organisation in Azerbaijan. It is a public organisation which works with sports clubs of universities and colleges on voluntary principles. The main tasks of the Genjlik FSSS is attracting students of universities and colleges to sports and organising participation of students in the national and international competitions.
Today Genjlik FSSS is comprised of 43 universities and 69 colleges.There are 29 sports clubs functioning in these colleges and universities. 119 coaches and 74 instructors work in this clubs. According to statistics, 294 sports activities in different sports operate in these educational establishments.There are about 10,000 students that practise these sports activities, which include the following sports: acrobatics, basketball, boxing, freestyle wrestling, judo, Greco Roman wrestling, volleyball, sports gymnastic, artistic gymnastic, badminton, athletics, swimming, handball, table tennis, weightlifting, fencing, football, chess, karate, taekwondo, draught. The national Universiades are held once every two years by Genjlik FSSS. The winners of the national Universiades participate in FISU Universiades. Apart from Universiades, Genjlik FSSS organises national championships in different sports for students. 3,000 students take part in the competitions held by Genjlik annually. Genjlik closely cooperates with the National Olympic Committee, the Youth and Sport Ministry, the Education Ministry as well as the trade union confederation of Azerbaijan. Since 1999, Genjlik FSSS is a member of FISU.
As representatives of an independent state, our students for the first time participated in the Universiade which took place in Buffolo USA (1993). Following that event our students participated in the Universiades in Fukuoka, Japan (1995), Palma de Mallorca, Spain (1999), Beijing, China (2001), Daegu, Korea (2003), İzmir,Turkey (2005), Bangkok,Thailand (2007), Belgrade,Serbia (2009) and Shenzhen, China (2011). Our sportsmen also took part in nine Student Championships, where they won 64 medals ,16 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze.
