FISU President Gallien and SG/CEO Saintrond with CBDU President Cabral
GOIANIA – FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien and FISU Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond attended the events that ended the 2012 season of Brazilian university sport. After visiting Brasilia (DF), the candidate city to host the 2019 Summer Universiade, and attending meetings with representatives of the Federal Government and the Federal District, the FISU delegates attended the 2012 CBDU Forum, the CBDU Extraordinary General Assembly and the CBDU Award Ceremony “Best of the Year” .
In Goiânia (GO), the FISU delegates met with representatives of the state government that ratified its support to the city’s bid to host the World University Futsal Championship in 2016.
CBDU Forum
On Friday 7 December, FISU President Gallien was one of the keynote speakers at the Brazilian Forum of University Sports which brought students, managers and researchers together to discuss ‘Sports Management in Times of Change”. The FISU President talked about the structure of FISU and the goals and actions of the organisation for the development of university sport in the Americas.
On Saturday 8 December, the FISU delegates had the opportunity to attend the CBDU Extraordinary General Assembly and got to know a bit more about the structure of the confederation and its member associations. “I am happy and proud to know the leaders and federations that make up CBDU certainly one of the largest confederations that we have in FISU. Congratulations to CBDU President Luciano Cabral and his whole team for the effort and work for the university sports and youth in Brazil”, President Gallien said in talks to officials during the Brazilian Assembly. He also wished Brasília and Goiânia good luck with their bids to host FISU events.
CBDU’s ‘Best of the Year’
The FISU delegates were also the guests of honour at the CBDU Award Ceremony ‘Best of the Year’, staged in the Mercure Hotel, in Goiânia. The event honoured athletes, coaches and team highlights of the 2012 season. “Athletes, be proud of yourselves, of the confederation and of the country you represent. I was also an athlete, competed in one Universiade, one of my best memories, and I hope you young athletes can also experience winning medals and mainly compete and interact with other young people”, FISU President concluded .
