SOFIAOn December 1st, 2012, the newly elected board of AUS “Academic” held its first assembly. Main topics of the meeting were the renewal of the sport licensing and the sports calendar.

The newly elected president of AUS “Academic” Zlatko Djourov was strongly supported for his management. The last year’s report informed the members of AUSA about the past and current situation of the federation. The members of the general assembly agreed on a rich state sports calendar for 2013 with a hope for strong teams and athletes who will represent Bulgaria internationally in 2013.

Important decisions were taken for the development and improvement of Bulgarian sport such as the need of a multi-functional sports hall and the restoration of membership in EUSA, FISU as well as hosting European and World sports competitions and forums.

University Championships in Bulgaria resumed after a three-year break!

After a long break spanning several years due to organisational and financial problems, the new executive board of the Association for University Sports “Academic” chaired by its new President Zlatko Djourov, rekindled the student championships with the great support of the Ministry of Physical Education and Sports. Since the beginning of November competitions are held in nine different sports. The new championships involve 29 universities which are represented by 146 teams and over 1,800 student-athletes. So far, competitions were hosted in Karate, Athletics Cross, Chess, Aerobics and Sport Climbing. Currently the championships in Volleyball, Basketball and Handball are underway and the swimming championship will start soon.
