Jamaica kick starts its 52nd Season of University Sports

KINGSTON On Saturday October 6th, 2012 the Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association, Intercol held its Opening Day at the Mico University in Kingston, Jamaica. The event started with an opening ceremony with the playing of the Jamaican national anthem and the FISU anthem after which there were greetings from Dr. Claude Packer, Principal of the Mico University and an address from the Intercol President Mr. Anthony Davis , read by 1st Vice President, Mr. Ventley Brown.

The Ceremony also included a student oath said by World University Netball Championships representative and Mico University Student Kerresa Kessna and a dress parade which was won by The Portmore Community College. The day also marked the beginning of the sporting competitions and all eighteen registered institutions were represented as the opening day of competition started with intense and exciting action. The sports which were contested on the day were: first round matches in the Intercol Gregg Garrell Male Football Knockout Competition, Table Tennis and Basketball along with a one day Netball rally. Teams will now turn their attention to the respective sporting competitions.
