10th WUC Wrestling: Portrait of the Day: Caylor Williams

6 October 2012

Caylor Williams (USA)

KUORTANE – The American Caylor Williams, born 1991 in Palm Bay, FL., will be competing in the Greco-Roman category 96 kg. Williams has been wrestling Greco-Roman for a year and a half now.  “Greco-Roman is more stand-up compared to folk style and there are more throws so I chose it because it seemed a bit harder.” Williams studies Sociology at the University of North-Carolina, Greensboro. Combining wrestling with school can be a challenge but Williams is appreciative of his university and professors. “Professors make it easy; they help out and are flexible. Also my home town supports me by setting up funds so that I can go around and compete.” Williams was qualified to the WUC 2012 through a victory from the National University Championships earlier this year. “The main goal is of course to win. All opponents seem pretty tough but I think I’m capable of winning as long as I do what I normally do when competing”. Next goal in sight for Williams will be the Senior World Trials. In the future, the young athlete wants to aim towards the Senior World Title and the 2016 Olympic team headed to Rio de Janeiro.  Caylor Williams will be competing on the mat tomorrow Saturday Oct. 6th in the men’s Greco-Roman under 74 kg category.
