Szabo vs Alizadehpournia
KUORTANE – Yesterday October 5th, was the starting point for the men’s Greco-Roman style. The categories in turn were under 55 kg, 60 kg, 66 kg, and 74 kg. All three highest weight-categories had at least 15 representatives from different countries whereas under 55 kg category counted eight participants.
Competing in the highest category, 74 kg, the Iranian Hadi Alizadehpournia came to the tournament holding the 2012 Asian Senior Wrestling Championship title. As expected, Alizadehpournia worked his way to the final where he met with Lazlo Szabo (HUN). Match took off intensely, both competitors trying to get the first point and the Iranian succeeding at it 1:10 into the first period and, also taking the win for the first round. 1:30 of the second period went through without any points thus leading into parterre-position from where the Iranian took the gold medal home. Bronze medallists for the men’s under 74 kg category were Damian Hartmann (GER) and Konstantin Shipaev (RUS).
Nowry vs Brychak
From the under 66 kg category to the gold medal match two wrestlers rose above others: Hungarian Istvan Kozak and Turkish Mevlut Arik. The match went without any points to either wrestler until the Hungarian forces the first point to himself and wins the period. Second period began also without any points to either thus, leading into the parterre-position at 30 seconds left of the match. In the end, the Hungarian finished off strong and took the gold. From the repechage round Petteri Martikainen (FIN) came to the bronze finals to wrestle against the Romanian Cristinel Vazvan Motoi as simultaneously Marat Shokarov (RUS) went against Yaraslau Kardash (BLR). From the matches the Romanian Cristinel Vazvan Motoi and Yaraslau Gardash (BLR) ended up receiving the bronze medals.
In the under 60 kg category the Moldovan Donior Islamov fought his way to the gold final against Michal Tracz (POL). Islamov managed to squeeze a victory from the first period and the second period went without any points until 1:30 into the second round. The Polish Tracz hurt his eye when only 20 seconds left of the match and the Moldovan turned out to be stronger and won the medal. Bronze medals were handed to Dzmitry Alenski (BLR) and Jamel Johnson (USA).
Tracz vs Islamov
In the 55 kg light-weight category Max Nowry (USA) succeeded to make his way to the gold medal match. Nowry was matched against Dzmitry Brychak (BLR). The light-weight final began slowly and both stayed without points until 1:30 was wrestled. The American managed to pull the gut wrenched move on the last seconds and won the first period. The second period went on in a similar manner until 30 seconds left Nowry defended his first period point and managed to win the gold medal. The bronze medal matches were won by Serif Kilic (TUR) and Ivan Blatsev (RUS).
