10th WUC Wrestling: First weigh-in and Final Preparations

1 October 2012

KUORTANE – Only one day before the kick-off of the 10th World University Wrestling Championship, and the final preparations are being held in the high performance center of Kuortane.

The delegations have all partially arrived and the training sessions have started getting more and more intense as the first weigh-ins approached.

It was also the occasion for the Heads of Delegations to gather at the first general technical meeting where Mr. Igarashi introduced the CISCA members as well as the organizing committee representatives. Mr. Cicioglu, technical delegate for wrestling gave the necessary information on the competition format to the attendants and representatives from Turkey, Russian Federation and Japan were nominated in the technical committee.

The afternoon was under high tension as the important moment of the weigh-in came with the well-known “cruelty of the scale” which lead not less than three athletes out of the draws for being in excess weight. Zhang from China went through within the last minutes after having previously weighed 60.01kg, ten grams above the required limit.

Tomorrow from 13h00 local time the competition will start with the Freestyle men -55kg, -60kg, -66kg, and -74kg.
