Basketball Champs: Faculty of Economics


PODGORICA – During the academic year, the Students Sports Association of Montenegro organizes National University Championships in 15 different sports and stages three university leagues (Futsal, Basketball & Volleyball) as well. Almost all University Championships have already been held, except the Montenegrin University Championship in Karate. The best athletes from that Championship will represent Montenegro at the World University Karate Championship, which will be held in Bratislava in July 2012.

The University Futsal League in 2011/2012 consisted of 15 teams, which were divided into two groups, and after 8 playing rounds of the league, the best four teams from both groups have won a play-off berth. The championship title was won for the fourth consecutive time by the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education’s team from Niksic, which defeated the Faculty of Economics’ team from Podgorica in the finals with a 4-0 (1-0).

The University Basketball League consisted of 10 teams, which were divided into two groups and after 5 playing rounds, the two best placed teams from both groups played in a play-off round. The league title went to the team of Faculty of Economics, which in the final game was better than the team of the University of the Mediterranean: 48:38 (17:12, 17:10, 9:6, 5:10).

The team of the Faculty of Economics was the best in the University Volleyball League as well. It won the title in an impressive way, beating all their opponents in the league games, as well as in the play offs. In the final game, the Faculty of Economics dominated the Faculty of Electrical Engineering from Podgorica with 3:0 (25:12, 25:12, 25:15).
