FISU Executive Committee Meeting in Kazan

KAZAN Today, May 11th, the FISU Executive Committee, officially started its meeting in Kazan, the city that will host the next Summer Universiade in July 2013.

Before starting this meeting, the FISU Executive Members welcomed the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov.

Mr. Minnikhanov was very pleased to open this session and thanked all the FISU delegates for their presence in Kazan. He underlined the fact that the Tatarstan Republic is fully supporting the organisation of the next Summer Universiade in Kazan. He made a detailed report regarding the works and constructions in Kazan. “The face of our city is changing and I can tell you that you will be surprised by the magnitude of this change” said Mr. Minnikhanov in front of our members. FISU President, Claude-Louis Gallien warmly thanked Mr. Minnikhanov for his full support and this from the very beginning of the project.

Mr. Gallien also stressed that the city of Kazan will benefit from the Universiade. “The legacy of our stay here will be substantial”.

 

Bayasgalan Danzandorj, the FISU TreasurerAfter this introduction FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien moved to the normal EC Meeting Agenda. He was the first to present his report and was followed by Treasurer Bayasgalan Danzandorj and Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond as well as Adrian Gagea, the Internal Auditor.

 

During this morning of discussions, several changes in the FISU statutes and internal regulations were examined.

The FISU Executive Committee will present a global project concerning these changes during the Extraordinary General Assembly that will be held here in Kazan during the month of September (the 21st) together with the FISU Gala.

 

 

 After the lunch the FISU EC returned in session with the full progress report from the 2013 Universiade Kazan.

 

The International Technical Committee (CTI) represented by its Chair, Mr. John Warnock, the Universiade Supervision Committee for Summer (CSU) represented by its Chair, Mr. Kemal Tamer, Vice-Chair Isato Igarashi and Kenny Chow (Member), presented their reports together with the ones from the FISU Director for the Summer Universiade, Marc Vandenplas, the FISU Media Director, Dejan Susovic and the FISU IT Consultant Mirjana Cvijanovic.

Globally all these presentations came all to the conclusion that the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan is very well prepared and that the Organising Committee is working in an excellent spirit of collaboration with all the FISU delegates.

Natalya Parshikova, Vice Minister of Sports of the Russian FederationThe delegates were then invited to listen to the full report from the Kazan Organising Committee itself lead by Mr. Vladimir Leonov, General Director of the Kazan OC accompanied by some high authorities such as Mrs. Natalya Parshikova, Vice-Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation and Mr. Ildar Khalikov, Prime Minister of the Tatarstan Republic.

Mr Leonov went in details over all aspects of the 2013 Summer Universiade organisation: visa procedure, accreditation, catering, transportation, venues, Media Center, security, etc. The FISU EC Members were all impressed by this presentation and had very positive comments.

At the end of this presentation, Claude-Louis Gallien was invited to sign the official FISU agreement for the FISU Conference which will be held during the 2013 Universiade.

 

Alison Odell, new CESU Chair, presenting the CESU reportAlison Odell, FISU First Assessor and  new Chair of the Committee for the Educational Services (CESU), then took the floor to present the FORUM 2012 final report, the FORUM 2014 perspectives and the FORUM 2016 launching of the Bid. She also took this opportunity to present the terms of reference and strategic plan of the CESU for the next period.

The FISU Conference 2013 in Kazan was her next topic. She presented the theme and sub-themes as well as the dates for the next edition: July, 14th-17th 2013. In June 2013, the next Rector’s FORUM will be held in Umea, Sweden. Mrs. Odell gave the opportunity to Stefan Bergh, FISU Vice-President and Honorary President of the SAIF (the Swedish University Sports Federation) to present this FISU event.

Kolë Gleloshaj, FISU Director for Educational Services who attended the general assembly of the International Fair Play Committee (CIFP), presented the opportunity to develop the cooperation with this organisation. He informed the EC Members that FISU 1st Vice-President, Oleg Matytsin was elected as a Member of the board of the CIFP.

Finally, Mr. Stefan Bergh, FISU Chair of the Committee for the Development of University Sports (CDSU) introduced the work of his committee. He first came back on the CDSU achievements during the 2001-2011 period. Then he presented the strategic direction of its committee for the future: cooperation with continental and national federations, special projects, etc.

This concluded this first day of EC Meeting in Kazan, Russia.
