FISU Medical Committee at the IOC HQ in Lausanne
LAUSANNE – The FISU Medical Committee members gathered in Lausanne on May 4th and 5th, 2012, for their official meeting, chaired by Dr. Lawrence Rink and included the presence of FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien. The first day started off with a morning session in the facilities of the International Olympic Committee during which Dr. Patrick Schamasch, IOC Director of the Medical and Scientific Department, made a general presentation on the composition and working of the IOC Medical Committee, the preparation of the medical care and anti-doping aspects and on the actual preparation for the next Olympic games in London. Following this, President Gallien, himself a member of the medical and scientific group in the Medical Commission of the IOC since 2003, opened an interactive Q&A session.
Main topics on the agenda were the presentations of final reports of the 2011 Erzurum Winter Universiade and the 2011 Shenzhen Summer Universiades as well as progress reports of the 2013 Trentino Winter Universiade and the 2013 Kazan Summer Universiade.

The afternoon session continued in the Maison du Sport International with a discussion on anti-doping strategy, followed by a World University Championships progress report. Then, the FISU representatives were pleased to welcome Frederic Donzé, WADA Director for Europe and International Federations Relations to give feedback and recommendations on blood testing, blood passport, use of ADAMS at Universiades and WUCs and how to continue implementing educational programs such as the WADA Outreach Program at FISU events.
The day ended with break-out sessions in four specific groups in Summer Universiade, Winter Universiade, World University Championships and Anti-doping.
Also in attendance during the sessions were Eric Saintrond (FISU Secretary-General/CEO), Caroline Feyaerts (Office General Manager), Laurent Briel (Director of Development), Paulo Ferreira (Director World University Championships), Julien Buhajezuk (Executive Assistant World University Championships) and Eun-Kyung Kim (WADA Anti-Doping Educational Project).
