General Assembly of the Swiss University Sports Federation

BERNE – The Swiss Olympic Committee hosted the General Assembly of the Swiss University Sports Federation (SUSF) in the House of Sports in Ittigen, Berne. President Andreas Csonka and the entire committee, including FISU Vice-President Leonz Eder, were re-elected for another term of two years.

The assembly accepted the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland as new member of the federation, which means that SUSF has 16,500 new members since the General Assembly. President Csonka stressed the fact, that 2011 was a very successful year for the SUSF. Students won 6 medals and 10 diplomas at the Winter Universiade inErzurum and 5 medals and 21 diplomas at the Summer Games in Shenzhen.

The Head of Delegation, Thomas Mörgeli, reported about the rich experiences in Shenzhen and stated that this crew is ready to prepare the Universiade in Kazan 2013. Fredi Schneider, Head of elite sports in the SUSF, presented a fact sheet with the expected participation in nearly 12 World University Championships this year. In the annual report Daniel Studer, responsible person for the EUC and EUG in the SUSF, reported that Swiss students participated in 9 EUC in 2011. They won medals in judo, badminton and rowing.

The medal winners were awarded with special gifts. Leonz Eder, managing director of SUSF, presented the annual accounts 2011 and the budget 2012. Instead of a loss of sfr 55,000.- the accounts closed per 31.12.2011 with a plus of sfr. 177,000.-, also the budget for 2012 is positive.

On behalf of the OC WUC Golf 2014, Guy Praplan, presented a progress report to the assembly. Marco Obrist, former director of University sports inBasel, and Kaspar Egger, director at Academic Sports Association inZurich and former Head of Delegations at the Summer Universiade, were nominated honorary members of the SUSF.
