
BRASILIA – The Meeting of the CBDU Assembly held February 28th, in Brasília (DF), met with the presidents and representatives of University Sports Federations from all over the country. The leaders approved the calendar of competitions for the 2012 season, the accountability related to 2011 and held the inauguration of the expansion of the organization’s headquarters.
The Assembly also gave the CBDU Emeritus Titles, for work and support in favor of university sport, to Joao Havelange, FIFA Honorary President; Hélio Milton Pereira, vice-president of CBDU in 1951 and Nazaré Bestene, former superintendent of the Center for Education and Sport at the University of the Amazon.
The highlight of the Assembly was the confirmation of tournaments and events for the 2012 season. CBDU expects to realize twelve competitions in the Brazilian University Sports League, i.e. Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Futsal, Handball, Volleyball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Rugby, Chess , Tennis, Table Tennis, Soccer and Beach Games. In partnership with others sports confederations, CBDU included in the 2012 calendar tournaments of Surf, Triathlon, Karate and Shooting. The University Olympics Games (JUB’s) will be held in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), in October.
CBDU will also promote the inaugural edition of the University Paralympic Games in four modalities: Sitting Volleyball,Tennis Court, Table Tennis and Chess. “Let’s start creating a register of disabled athletes all over the country and promote this pilot project to include young paralympic athletes and bring more opportunities for students with special needs”, said Ignacio Luis Gouveia, CBDU director of parasports.
And Brazil is preparing to host two of the FISU World University Championships: Handball, in Blumenau (SC), from June 21 to July 01, and Beach Volleyball, in Maceió (AL), from September 12 to 16.
On the international scene, CBDU intends to organize athletes and teams to compete in twelve World University Championship in 2012:Taekwondo, Triathlon, Rugby Seven, 3×3 Basketball, Karate, Fustal, Chess, Canoeing, Match Racing, Shooting, Wrestling and Weightlifting.
In January (10 to 15/01), athletes Juliana Negrao and Arthur Monassi represented Brazil in the World University Water Ski, in Chile. Juliana reached the finals of Jumps and Tricks and got the 9th place.

We also want to celebrate medals and the successes of our athletes in the World University Championships, in particular those that we will organize here in Brazil. And for that we have the support of all the university sports federations, universities, sponsors, the Brazilian Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports”, CBDU President Luciano Cabral explained.
