FISU SG/CEO Saintrond presents the EASF President with a FISU plate
TARTU – On January 19th and 20th, 2012, the Estonian Academic Sports Federation (EASF) celebrated its 20th anniversary, which was commemorated with a number of events in Tartu, Estonia.
An exhibition on “Student Sport through Times” was opened on January 19th in the Estonian Sports Museum. The exhibition was reflecting the important aspects of student sport in Estonia in the past 100 years.
An international conference “Student Sport in Professional Sport” was held on January 20th. The conference featured presentations by leaders of student sport federations from countries around Estonia, as well as by representatives ofFISUand EUSA. The aim of the conference was to exchange experiences of integrating student sport in a single sport system and to find new opportunities for the development of student sport and, through this, the sport in Estonia in general. The most interesting presentations were made by Mr. Ants Veetõusme, the President of the Estonian Academic Sports Federation (EASF); Mr. Eric Saintrond,FISUSecretary-General/CEO; Mr. Matjaz Pecovnik, the Secretary General of the European Univesity Sports Association (EUSA); Mr. Sergey Ponomarev, the Vice-President of the Russian Student Sport Union (RSSA); Mr. Ceslovas Garbaliuskas, the President of the Lithuanian Students’ Sports Association (LSSA); Mr. Josef Åhman, the Secretary General of the Swedish University Sports Federation (SAIF) and Mr. Märt Israel, the Universiade champion and World Championships’ 4th place winner in dicus throw 2011, Master degree student of the Tallinn Technical University.
A reception dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Estonian Academic Sports Federation was held in the evening. President of EASF Ants Veetõusme gave a speech and made an interesting summary about the past 20 years fo student sports in Estonia. All the best volunteers, sportsmen, partners and friends from other countries were awarded with a Letter of Appreciation.
