VILNIUS – On October 3rd, 2011 the President of the Republic of Lithuania Mrs Dalia Grybauskaite hosted the reception for the Lithuanian Students Sports Association (LSSA) representatives and the participants of the 2011 Summer Universiade at the Presidential Palace in Vilnius.
Mrs Grybauskaite welcomed the delegates and participants and congratulated them for their remarkable achievements at this year’s Summer Universiade.
The 26th Summer Universiade, held inShenzhen,China, saw the largest participation of a Lithuanian delegation at the World University Games so far. Altogether 126 people – athletes, coaches, medical staff and operating personnel participated in Shenzhen. The athletes performed very well and returned home with 13 medals: 5 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze. Their success put Lithuania on the 13th place globally, 6th place within Europe and 2nd place among the Baltic countries.
Mr Ceslovas Garbaliauskas, LSSA President and EUSA Executive Committee member thanked the President for the reception and stated: “This was the largest delegation of the Lithuanian athletes in our country’s history and the most successful one. I would like to thank everyone for their involvement and participation, and congratulate you on the excellent results.”
