Mr Bojic (l) with Mr Jovanovic, USSS President
LJUBLJANA – The long-time Secretary General of the University Sports Federation of Serbia Mr Dragoljub Bojić has retired with the beginning of October 2011, after finalising his last mission – a successful participation of the Serbian team at the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, and completion of the past academic year.
University sport in Serbia sees Mr Bojic as its icon, as he was nominated to the position in 1974, and has held the post until his recent retirement. During this time, he not only attended 18 Summer and 17 Winter Universiades, but was also active in the organization of two Universiades (1987 in Zagreb and 2009 in Belgrade), and several World and European Universities Championships. In this time, Serbian student-athletes won 86 medals at Summer and 22 medals at Winter Universiades and over 500 medals in 700 World and European and other international university events.
Mr Bojic did not consider himself a functionary, but was doing his job professionally and passionately, attending the needs of student-athletes and the federation structure and membership. In 2009 the Order of Merit by the European University Sports Association was bestowed upon Mr Bojic for his life achievement and commitment to National and International University Sports.
University Sports Federation of Serbia will nominate its new Secretary General in the upcoming period.
