VILA VELHA – After the Northern and Northeastern Regionals of the 2011 Brazilian University League, the city of Vila Velha (Espírito Santo state) hosts the Southern, Southeastern and Middle Western tournaments of basketball, volleyball, futsal and handball. Around 800 athletes, from eight Brazilian states, play the Brazilian University League from June 20th to 25th. The finals are scheduled for Saturday, June 25th.
More than 40 teams, representing twenty universities, will enter the court for matches that classify the champions and runners-up for the national phase of the Brazilian University League in the federal capital, Brasília (DF).
Four gymnasiums will be used for the competition and the entrance for the public is free. Vila Velha’s city hall is supporting the event and showing the university community the potentiality of the city that will host the World University Rugby 7 Championship next year.
“We are impressed about the increase of the number of participants and also by the high performance level of the teams at this edition of the League. This is the final chance for teams to guarantee their spot for the national tournament and Vila Velha is one of the best stages for the athletes to show their best performance”, pointed Luciano Cabral, President of Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) responsible for the organizing of Brazilian University League.
