COPACABANA – The Brazilian University League of Beach Volleyball opened the 2011 tournament season of the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU). The court built on Copacabana Beach received 31 pairs (15 male and 16 female) playing for the national trophy and classification for the 2011 Summer Universiade, in Shenzhen, China.
The doubles Luana and Marcella (Fabavi) from Espírito Santo and Leopold and Richard (Unipe) from Paraíba won the University League of Beach Volleyball 2011 after three days of play and over 60 games. “We are pretty happy and now we will train and prepare the bags for the trip to China. It will be my second chance to represent Brazil in an international tournament”, told Marcella who competed in the FISU 2010 World University Beach Volleyball Championship in Spain.
The Brazilian University League of Beach Volleyball also celebrated a record of participants entered in this 4th edition of the tournament. Over 60 young athletes representing 22 universities of fourteen Brazilian states played the tournament.
“The growth in the number of participants and the high technical level of the teams are examples of the consolidation of national university sport among young athletes and universities. And this is just the first event of the year. The news on the calendar and the selection for the Summer Universiade will make 2011 a very busy season”, said CBDU President Luciano Cabral.
Next week, between May 25th and 29th, the Brazilian University League continues with two more tournaments: the League of Judo, Karate and Taekwondo and the League of Chess and Table Tennis.
The 2011 Brazilian University League is sponsored by the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU) with support from the Ministry of Sports and the sponsorship of Itaú, Volkswagen, Koch Tavares, Wilson, ABC Bank, Redecard, Nokia, Contax and Bauducco.
