
EILAT – On March 5th in Eilat, Israel , the European University Sports Association (EUSA), FISU Associate Member held its General Assembly. 43 countries were attending the meeting. The agenda of the meetings started on March 4th with the EUSA Conference.
Mr. George E. Killian FISU President was present in Eilat. More than 20 members of the FISU Family were in Eilat including Eric Saintrond the Secretary General. We also have to underline the attendance of the M. Malumbete Ralethe FISU First Assessor and President of the African University Sports Federation (FASU).
The programme of the Conference was made up of presentations of special activities and programs developed within EUSA such as the first EUSA Games to be held in Cordoba-Spain in July 2012, the Friendship Games, FISU experience and Women and Sport survey.
On the 5th , the General Assembly was open with the welcome speeches of the Mayor of Eilat , Meir Izahak Halevi, the Head of Israel Sports Authority, Uri Sheffer and also Gen. Mansour Abu Rashid. Mr. Alberto Gualtieri EUSA President and Mr. Ari Rosenzweig President of the National University Sports Federation of Israel (A.S.A.) invited Mr. George E. Killian, FISU President and Mr. M. Malumbete Ralethe FASU President to take the floor.
The EUSA President insisted on the growing number of activities and the preparation of the first EUSA Games in 2012. He also underlined the success of the EUSA Volunteer program and the EUSA Anti-Doping Initiative.
The meeting was also the opportunity to give the EUSA Awards:
– Best University Award: University of Coimbra – Portugal
– Award for the most Active NUSF: AZS Poland
– Enno Harms Fair Play Award: Men Hand Ball Team of Cyprus
– STC Photo Competition Winner: Beate Alderslyst (NOR)
