Finnish ‘Student-Athlete of the Year’-Award granted to a Sport Shooter

Team Suomi won the silver in the women’s ice hockey tournament at the 25th WU

 

HELSINKI OLL, the Finnish Student Sports Federation, celebrated its 87th anniversary in various ways. The highlight clips of the 25th Winter Universiade in Erzurum were shown and medallists cheered. The Finnish teams performed very well in the Turkish ice arenas; Synchronized Skating teams Rockettes and Marigold IceUnity dazzled with their double victory in synchronized skating and the women’s ice hockey team pocketed a very respectable silver medal.

The excellent success of the Finnish female athletes was emphasized by the signing of the Brighton declaration, which values the equal involvement of women in every aspect of sport. Moreover, the Finnish Student Athlete of the year -award went to a female athlete for the fifth year in a row. This time the honored sportswoman was shooter Pauliina Frilander, who won a gold medal in the 50 m rifle prone at the 2010 World University Sport Shooting Championship. Twenty-two year old Pauliina is studying multilingual communication at the University of Tampere. One of her goals for this year is to conquer the podium at the Shenzhen Universiade in August.
