
SAO PAULO – The Winter and Summer Universiades and Brazilian University Sports League are featured in the calendar of competitions of the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) for the year 2011.
After the trophies in FISU World Championships, Pan-American and South-American and the records of participation in national competitions in 2010, CBDU hopes to achieve the best participation of Brazilian University Sport at the 26th Summer Universiade in August in Shenzhen, China.
‘We had an extremely positive year with five medals at the 2010 FISU World Championships, with three titles: Futsal with the men’s and women’s teams, and Canoeing; the title of the Pan-American University Basketball Championship and volleyball and tennis gold medals at the South-American University Games. And we also had a growing participation of universities and sports federations in CBDU´s competitions’, CBDU President Luciano Cabral said.
To celebrate and consolidate this growth, CBDU ended the 2010 season with the awards ceremony of the ‘Best of the Year’ and the VI CBDU Forum between December 16th to 18th, in São Paulo (SP).
Athletes, commissions and institutions of higher education highlights in the 2010 season and state university sports federations, key partners of CBDU, were honored during the celebration of the ‘Best of the Year’.
The VI Forum CBDU, which theme was “University Sports: Management, Innovations, Partnerships and Development”, brought together leaders, managers and athletes for talks with Sergio Pavan, Andre Rosa and Ricardo Trade. The Forum also had room for discussions and presentations of CBDU’s department.
After the recess for the holiday season, CBDU resumes its normal activities on January 3rd. The Winter Universiade in Erzurum, Turkey, is the first competition of the year between January 27th and February 6th. CBDU General Assembly occurs in February.
In the first semester, between June and July, are planned steps of the Brazilian University Sports League and Brazilian Triathlon and Wrestling Championships. Afterwards the preparation of teams and athletes for the Summer Universiade, in Shenzhen, China begins.
The finals of the Brazilian League and the Brazilian Rugby, Street Race and Soccer Championship and the University Olympics stir the second semester. The premiere edition of Beach Games and the award ‘Best of the Year’ close 2011 in the first half of December, in Maceió.
