FISU at Events Seminar in Lausanne

2 December 2010

LAUSANNE Despite the heavy snow fall over the past few days in Lausanne, the final IF Staff seminar for 2010 took place at the Maison du Sport International. A total of 29 representatives from 20 international federations and organisations attended the session that focused on Innovation in our Events.

The session started with an overview of Lausanne’s new approach to events through its communication strategy and included a brainstorming exercise to facilitate ideas and strategies towards achieving this goal.

The second presentation of the morning – entitled New platforms in IF events: City Events conference – was delivered by Paulo Ferreira (FISU Executive Assistant) and focused on the way FISU found to innovate towards an existing situation within the framework of international federations, namely the growing need to constantly be in touch with cities bidding for sports events.

This was followed by an approach towards the main theme by the World Boxing Federation – New products: World Series of Boxing. Olaf Veltman, AIBA Sports Director, explained the creation and implementation of the World Series of Boxing, an annually recurring, global competition featuring franchises in three regional conferences: Asia, Europe and the Americas. This innovative approach is an interesting angle created by AIBA with regards to professional boxing.

The final presentation of the seminar was given by Nick Haigh from IEC in Sports. This media strategies consulting company (that specialises in TV rights distribution) presented New promotion: TV/internet, focusing on innovative forms in sports events through these media communication tools. Some background and trends on sport & the media were provided, as well as some simple media strategy guidelines.

FISU was represented by Michal Buchel (Sports Manager) and Jiho KIM (Sports Assistant), while international federations present included Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), European Athletics (EAA), Fédération Internationale des Sociétés d’Aviron (FISA), Association Internationale de Boxe (AIBA), Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et Tobogganing (FIBT), Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport (FICS), Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), Fédération Mondiale de Taekwondo (WTF), International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS), Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS), International Masters Games Association (IMGA), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Sportaccord, IEC in Sports and Service de l’éducation physique et des sports (SEPS).
