
TEHRAN – At the last day of the International Sports’ Journalists Seminar in Tehran Dr. Younes Shokrkhah, Assistant Professor of Communication Sciences at the Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran gave a lecture about “Cyber Journalism – A conceptual Framework”. The Head of the Institute for North American and European Studies (INAES) discussed the question, “what distinguishes cyber journalism from traditional journalism” and mentioned its interactivity and accessibility. He named many advantages of the cyber journalism, but drew also the attention to a checklist of important questions which every journalist should answer before using news, copying information, writing articles.
Plenty of questionsFISU Assessor Verena Burk gave an interesting overview about “Sports in the media – the German example” and presented a lecture on “The responsibility of mass media and sport journalism for high performance sport”. First she informed about the specific functions of mass media and sport journalism in and for society. After that she mentioned their influence and power, e.g. the structural changes of sport through the needs of television, and the process of agenda setting. At the end of her presentation she highlighted the responsibility of sport journalists and the ethical standards for high quality sports coverage.
The audience showed a great interest on these two topics. The FISU Assessor had to answer a big number of questions, e.g. the conflict between independence of the journalists and the close relation to the protagonists of the sport system for receiving news exclusively.
In a final round table the members of the OC, the Iranian lecturers and the two FISU delegates Verena Burk and Leonz Eder gave all the participants the possibility to ask specific questions or make remarks to the topics of the seminar. Finally the participants adopted a declaration which includes the wish for annual repetition of such kind of educational seminars, especially for young sport journalists. The seminar concluded with a finally photo session and handing over the diplomas.
